Marina Bay Sands temporarily closed after two workers test positive for Covid-19
Singapore's mega-casino Marina Bay Sands will be temporarily closing its doors after two of the casino staff tested positive for Covid-19. There is no scheduled reopening date as the venue undergoes deep cleaning.
The hotel has assured the guests “other employees who are close contacts have been identified and placed on stay home notice or quarantine order,” while the casino works closely with the Ministry of Health in contact tracing efforts for guests who may have had contact with the two staff members.
“We will continue to be vigilant on all fronts, including stringent cleaning regimes, safe distancing measures across property, and regular Covid-19 testing of frontline staff,” said the statement. “The rest of the property will be operating based on revised capacities and stricter measures across property till 13 June 2021, in support of the Government’s latest efforts.”
While the casino is closed, the hotel remains open for reservations, with each room accommodating a maximum of two people. Attractions, such as SkyPark Observation Deck or Sampan Rides, operate at a reduced capacity of 25%.
The Governments of Singapore and Hong Kong were planning to launch an air travel bubble between the two regions on 26 May, but due to an increase in cases in Singapore, those plans were delayed.
The idea for a travel bubble was floating around since Autumn of last year, but it was pushed back to 2021, and now it’s to be delayed again for an indefinite time. The air travel bubble would require passengers to have a negative test certificate for Covid-19 before they can take a direct flight.
