Marina Bay Sands reopens after temporary closure
The Marina Bay Sands in Singapore has resumed operations from 19 May 2021 after an extensive deep-cleaning process. The venue was forced to close for a few days because two employees were tested positive for Covid-19, and other workers in contact with them had to be quarantined.
The operator promised to enhance Covid-19 testing on staff, and strict cleaning and social distancing measures will be implemented in the venue. The property operates at a reduced capacity, with casinos allowing only two people per gaming table, and hotel rooms can only accommodate 2 guests in one room.
Other attractions are operating at 25% reduced capacity. The convention centre allows up to 100 people per event with Pre-Event Testing (PET) and up to 50 people without PET. However, the fitness centre and the local club are closed until further notice.
“The integrated resort is operating based on revised capacities and stricter Safe Management Measures across property till 13 June 2021, in support of the Government’s latest efforts,” said the statement. “We are SG Clean and Bureau Veritas certified, demonstrating that we adhere to strict hygiene standards and rigorous sanitary protocols.”
Singapore had planned to initiate special travel arrangements with countries in Asia and Europe, but the rising number of cases put those plans on hold. Most recently, Singapore’s air travel bubble with Hong Kong had to be delayed for the second time.
Singapore’s casinos seem to be mostly supported by local communities, as the pandemic continues and international travel is restricted. For Q4 2020, Marina Bay Sands’ profits were $144m, a 106% increase from Q3. EBITDA was $338.2m.
