Sportradar awarded sports betting licence in Maryland and Wisconsin

Sportradar has been awarded two new state gaming licences, including a Sports Wagering Contractor Licence in Maryland, and a temporary Gaming-Related Contractor Certificate in Wisconsin.

The sports betting technology company announced the news after the states of Maryland and Wisconsin passed legislation independently of one another. This now allows customers of the company’s US betting subsidiary, Sportradar Solutions, to place wagers at select physical sportsbooks in those states.

Sportsbook legislation has been passed at varying rates across the US, with individual states in charge of how laws are formed surrounding sports betting. Maryland first started accepting legal wagers on 9 December, while Wisconsin introduced legalised sports betting on 30 November, with the Oneida Nation the first group to be awarded a licence there.

Both states have plans to continue further expansions into sports betting, with mobile and online platforms also included in the new legislation. With the addition of Maryland and Wisconsin, Sportradar now holds 26 licences across state and tribal levels in the US.

On the news, Arne Rees, Sportradar US CEO, commented: “Sportradar is constantly looking for opportunities to expand offerings for its partners and customers and, from a betting standpoint, that starts with securing state licences in key states like Maryland and Wisconsin, which have multiple professional sports teams, as well as very passionate fanbases.”

“These licences further Sportradar’s leadership position in the US and allow us to grow these new markets with our best-in-class data, products, and services, all backed by the highest levels of integrity.”
