Pennsylvania gaming revenue up 18% for January

According to data provided by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, total income from all gambling activities, including fantasy sports competitions, was $464.5m for January 2023, up 18% year-on-year.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National brought in the most money, $71.8m, a rise of 25% from January 2022.

The total made from retail slot machines in January was $202.2m, a 20% year-on-year rise.

There were 25,799 active slot machines, down from 26,158 in the same month the previous year.

Similarly, land-based table game income increased by 7% to $83.9m in January 2023. The amount collected in taxes here was $13.7m.

Moreover, the gross revenue from online casinos increased by 23% to $133,1m. Internet gaming generated $55.5m in tax revenue. The overall amount spent on sports betting handle was $772.2m.

At the same time, the current year’s taxable revenue was $39.2m, or 22% more than January 2022’s taxable revenue of $32.2m.

Revenue from fantasy contests fell by 9.% from January 2022’s $2.9m to $2.6m.

Meanwhile, gross gaming revenue (GGR), which includes all gaming-related sources, was $452.4 million in November 2022, up 5% from the previous year.

And for December, the Keystone State posted GGR figures for December, in which the state generated $491.6m, up 16%.

Overall, Pennsylvania’s gaming performance has become increasingly healthy from an industry perspective, often outperforming that of neighbouring New Jersey, too.
