Sky Bet Ebor Festival returns for Community Sweepstake charity event

Sky Bet has once again teamed up with York Racecourse to bring back the Sky Bet Ebor Festival Community Sweepstake, a horseracing event that gives Yorkshire-based charities the chance to win up to £20,000 ($25,484).

Organisations are invited to apply for the event, which will see 22 of them shortlisted and assigned to a horse that will run at the event, with the draw for this taking place live on TV on 24 August.

The Sky Bet Ebor race will be held two days later on 26 August, with £20,000 up for grabs for whichever charity is assigned to the winning horse.

James Brennan, Head of Marketing and Sponsorship at York Racecourse, said: “The Sky Bet Ebor Festival is always a highlight in our racing calendar, not only given that the Sky Bet Ebor feature race remains Britain’s richest flat handicap, but also given that it allows us to connect with and shine a light on incredible causes across Yorkshire.

“We look forward to reading about all the incredible work that is going on across the county and then welcoming those from the shortlist to the racecourse to enjoy their day alongside over 25,000 racegoers, as they all cheer on their respective horses.”

It’s not only the first place that will benefit from this race though, as the charities assigned to the second and third place horses will receive £5,000 and £2,000 respectively.

All shortlisted organisations will also be awarded £1,000 for whatever project or cause they represent.

Michael Shinners, Racing Odds Manager at Sky Betting & Gaming, added: “Last year was an incredible success, and it’s great to be working with York Racecourse again this year on the Sky Bet Ebor Festival Community Sweepstake.

“Not only does the competition allow us to donate money towards local and worthwhile causes, but also provide them with a platform to showcase the amazing work that they do.

“Working with communities to do more sits at the heart of Flutter’s ‘Positive Impact Plan’, so we’re proud to be driving positive change in our local area in a way that is both engaging and fun.”

This summer is proving to be a good one for charities, with six organisations receiving a total of £277,000 from Royal Ascot races too.
