WestLotto partners with OpenBet to supply Neccton technology

German lottery operator WestLotto has partnered with OpenBet to bring the sports betting technology company’s Neccton responsible gaming tools, which include anti-money laundering (AML) and fraud detection, to the long-standing lottery operator. This partnership is expected to help WestLotto improve its compliance while also gaining insights into player activity, bringing additional player safety to users.

WestLotto has been in operation for almost 70 years, first launching in 1955. It is a World Lottery Association (WLA) member and has allowed for online play since the early 2000s, bar a brief ban on online gaming between 2009 – 2012.

OpenBet, meanwhile, has been in operation for over 20 years. It has partnered with over 75 countries in locations including the US, Australia, UK and other European territories, with WestLotto being the 18th lottery operator to have partnered with OpenBet.

OpenBet is also a Gold Contributor with the WLA, which was announced last year.

On the partnership, Managing Director of Neccton at OpenBet Michael Auer, said: “Our new partnership with WestLotto is hugely exciting and we are delighted to foster this significant relationship with Germany’s largest lottery provider.

“This is a significant move for us as it makes Neccton the largest responsible gaming provider in this market. We look forward to continuing our growth and enjoying a successful working relationship with WestLotto.”

Meanwhile, Axel Weber, Head of Public Affairs, Communication and Responsible Gaming at WestLotto focused on the expected improvement to player safety coming to users of WestLotto both online and offline thanks to the tools provided by the partnership. He said: “Player protection as part of responsible gaming is a top priority for WestLotto. We look forward to working with OpenBet and Neccton in ensuring players have a safe gambling environment and can continue to enjoy our games.”

study by Gambling Atlas Germany revealed that 30% of Germans had gambled since 2021, with the country’s gambling disorder rate at 2.3%.
