The Star’s Brisbane suspension delayed to December 2024

The Star’s Brisbane casino licence suspension will commence on 20 December instead of 31 May.

The Star’s Brisbane suspension delayed to December 2024

The Star Entertainment Group (The Star) has received an important update from the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation.

Based on a recommendation by the Honourable Yvette D’Ath MP, the Governor in Council has approved a change in the date when the licence suspensions for The Star’s Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane casinos will take effect. Originally set for May 31, 2024, the suspensions will now begin on December 20, 2024.

This extension is intended to give the Queensland Government more time to review the outcomes of the Second Bell Inquiry into The Star’s activities in New South Wales. Additionally, it will allow for a better assessment of The Star’s progress in addressing any issues identified.

It is important to note that the term of the Special Manager overseeing The Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane casinos will not change. The Special Manager’s appointment is still set to end on 8 December 2024.

This announcement specifically concerns The Star’s operations in Queensland. Meanwhile, The Star continues to participate in the ongoing Second Bell Inquiry in New South Wales.

The delay in the licence suspensions provides The Star with additional time to implement necessary changes and demonstrate improvements in its operations before further decisions are made by the Queensland Government.

Just recently, Jessica Mellor resigned as The Star Gold Coast’s CEO. This has been preceded by allegations of misconduct and regulatory breaches by The Star Entertainment Group.
