KSA detects unauthorised betting on youth matches by licensed entities

The Authority has been developing measures this year to crack down on unauthorised and illegal sports betting in the region.

KSA detects unauthorised betting on youth matches by licensed entities

Key points:

– The KSA detected seven instances of illegal betting in the 2023/24 football season

– These included youth matches and amateur competitions

– The Authority will ensure the companies adhere to the cease and desist order

The Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Dutch Gaming Authority, has reported several unauthorised bets have been detected by its systems.

As the companies involved have not been named yet, it remains unclear whether the infractions were committed by operators, suppliers or another relevant business.

A total of seven games were flagged, as these included younger players and ‘events’ in the bets, such as cards or corner kicks. These games were based around the world and during the 2023/24 season.

A spokesperson for the KSA said: “The parties concerned have been ordered to cease and desist from the prohibited betting offer. In addition, all providers who have not reported their unauthorised betting offer have been warned that they must be alert to these types of errors and report any incidents to the KSA.”

Good to know: Certain betting markets are restricted in the Netherlands, such as matches with players under the age of 21 and players receiving red or yellow cards, because these carry an increased risk of manipulation

The KSA will check whether the unauthorised betting has been suspended by the relevant parties, and if they haven’t remedied the issue by a later date, then a sanction will follow.

Earlier last month, the KSA intervened following multiple sponsorship violations, many of which involved sporting events.
