Rank Group expects £63m operating profit as FY2025 revenue rises 11%

Casino operator eyes July reforms to boost gaming machine footprint across Grosvenor estate.

Rank Group expects £63m operating profit as FY2025 revenue rises 11%

Key points:

– Rank Group expects full-year operating profit of at least £63m, exceeding earlier forecasts

– Like-for-like net gaming revenue (NGR) for FY2025 rose 11% to approximately £795

– Strong Q4 performance offsets regulatory and cost pressures in final quarter

The Rank Group has reported a stronger-than-expected financial performance for the fiscal year ending 30 June 2025, with like-for-like net gaming revenue up 11% year-on-year to around £795m ($1bn).

The group now anticipates underlying operating profit to reach at least £63m, above prior internal estimates.

CEO John O’Reilly credited sustained trading momentum through Q4 for the earnings beat, despite navigating what he described as “significant cost and regulatory headwinds.”

Rank’s performance update arrives weeks ahead of major changes to the UK’s gambling framework.

From 22 July, revised rules under the Gambling Act will allow small casinos in England and Wales to operate five gaming machines per table, up from the current limit of two.

In anticipation, Rank has confirmed plans to increase its machine count by 882 units across its Grosvenor Casino estate, adding to its existing inventory of 1,367. The rollout will proceed through local authority licensing in the months ahead.

Good to know: If approved and implemented over the next 2–3 years, the planned expansion would bring Rank’s total machine count to 2,249

The new rules also permit on-site sports betting, while further regulatory changes – including ID verification age increases and a statutory gambling levy – are set to take effect later this year.

The positive trading update follows Rank’s Q3 FY2025 results, which showed a 10.9% increase in net gaming revenue. The company has also expanded its digital footprint, including a recent partnership with game developer Octoplay.

With preliminary FY2025 results scheduled for release on 14 August, investors will be watching closely to see how Rank navigates the first phase of regulatory changes and broader shifts in the UK gambling landscape.
