Online gambling operators in the Philippines are adopting new methods to reach players following tighter restrictions on e-wallet links, The Philippine Star reported. Senator Erwin Tulfo, chair of the Senate committee on games and amusement, said operators have begun migrating to encrypted messaging platforms and e-commerce applications to continue offering betting services.
Tulfo explained that while e-wallet firms complied with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ 48-hour order to delink gambling sites from their apps, gambling companies are “doubling efforts” to bypass restrictions. He noted that BingoPlus issued an advisory to customers on 16 August, confirming its games remained accessible via its app, website and through Viber, while deposits and withdrawals could still be made using GCash and Maya.
Tulfo welcomed the cooperation of e-wallet providers but stressed that more comprehensive solutions are needed. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between government and business to prevent widespread gambling addiction, particularly among younger Filipinos.
