A grand welcome ceremony greeted Sands China’s 1.1 billionth guest to its combined properties.

The company celebrated the landmark visitor by presenting them with a number of exclusive surprises that commemorated the history of the company’s operations in the region.

The event was held at The Venetian Macau and fortuitously came on the same day that the venue was enjoying its 18th anniversary.

Staff gathered for photographs to mark the occasion, with appearances from Dr Wilfred Wong, Executive VC and Grant Chum, CEO and Executive Director.

Dr Wong had this to say: “Moving forward, we will continue to work alongside Macau and invest in non-gaming projects to polish further its ‘golden business card’ as an international metropolis, showcasing its unique charm to both residents and visitors from around the world.”

Good to know: Sands China’s cumulative investment in Macau is over MOP 134.5bn ($16.74bn), according to the operator itself

Sands’ interest in the region began in 2004 with the opening of Sands Macao, though since then it has opened The Venetian, The Londoner, The Parisian, The Plaza and The Four Seasons nearby.

In Q2, the Las Vegas Sands Corporation outstripped its sector rivals who are operating in Macau by some distance – even removing Marina Bay Sands from the equation, which lies outside of the region, Sands still generated $300m more revenue than Galaxy Entertainment group, its closest competitor.

There is plenty of capital investment going on with Sands’ Macau operations as well – Q2 expenditure got as high as $138m.

In the announcement accompanying this milestone, the company reiterated its commitment to trying to attract international visitors with high-end hospitality offerings.
