Ugandan Responsible Gaming Department takes to schools to highlight dangers of gambling
The campaign is the latest action taken to protect young people and other vulnerable player groups.

The Responsible Gaming Department in Uganda has travelled to different secondary schools across the Rakai region to discuss the dangers associated with gambling.
So far, the team has visited five schools and held talks for over 3,000 students.
Recent studies have found that students are regularly engaging in mobile betting and being introduced to gambling through peer pressure from other pupils.
The latest initiative hopes to emphasise to the children in attendance that gambling is not only dangerous to young people, but also illegal.
The speakers focused on discussing how gambling can lead to academic decline, addiction and financial and emotional ruin.
Good to know: Gambling is currently banned for people under the age of 25, as per Uganda’s Lotteries and Gaming Act Cap 334
A spokesperson said: “The Rakai initiative is more than just a campaign – it’s a blueprint for other districts and countries grappling with the rise of underage gambling.
“By combining education, regulation, and community involvement, we can protect young people from the hidden dangers of betting and empower them to pursue meaningful, productive futures.”
Yesterday, Uganda’s National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) published several updates into Operation “Mashine Haramu,” an ongoing nationwide initiative targeting illegal gaming operators, manufacturers and suppliers.
