Macau casino-hotels hit full capacity ahead of Golden Week surge
Strong bookings signal robust tourism and gaming revenue outlook.
Key points:
– 8 major hotels already sold out for first three days of Golden Week in Macau
– Daily gross gaming revenue in October expected to reach new highs
– Authorities forecast 1.2 million tourist arrivals across the holiday
Macau’s hotel industry is preparing for one of its busiest holiday periods in recent years, with the upcoming Mid-Autumn and National Day Golden Week driving demand to near saturation.
According to booking platform data, eight major properties, including those operated by SJM, MGM China, Wynn Macau and Galaxy Entertainment, have sold out rooms for the first three days of October.
Room prices on October 1 are starting from about MOP 2,000 (US$248) per night, reflecting peak demand. Sands China’s Venetian and Parisian resorts still show limited availability, but industry representatives expect occupancy across the city to exceed 90% during the holiday.
Indeed, industry executives are optimistic. Ma Ho Man,Executive Director and Deputy Chairman of Success Universe Group, said bookings at his group’s property were already at 70 to 80% for the opening days of Golden Week, and predicted full occupancy during the holiday. He added that average room rates were slightly lower than last year, but strong visitor flows would offset the adjustment.
Analysts believe the surge will support record gaming results. Morgan Stanley projected October gaming revenue to reach between MOP 22bn and MOP 23bn, or a daily average of about MOP 730m.
Good to know: Macau currently has over 47,000 hotel rooms available, with prices rising moderately in peak months compared with the previous year
Brokerages suggest this could make October the strongest month of 2025, driven by resilient premium mass spending and gains from equity markets boosting consumer sentiment.
Tourism authorities expect around 1.2m visitor arrivals between October 1 and 8, aided by policies such as multiple-entry permits through Hengqin. Officials believe the momentum will reinforce Macau’s recovery, with full-year gross gaming revenue forecast in the range of MOP 248bn to MOP 250bn.
