Expertise
Marcus held a variety of positions at Sporting News, capped by overseeing the company’s partnership with The Linemakers from 2012-14. Sporting News served the distribution partner for the Las Vegas-based group of sportsbook directors and oddsmakers. The role was the perfect coalescence of Marcus’ skills and experience as an editor with his passion for sports betting, setting him on a path in the gambling industry.
As the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA in 2018, Marcus served as director of content for USA Sports Gaming, a company that aspired to compete as a sportsbook operator in multiple states. At the sports betting startup, he led the launch of two websites, focused on the emerging industries in Illinois and Indiana.
From 2021-2023, Marcus was managing editor at Gaming Today, owned by a global gambling affiliate, before being promoted to content manager for the company’s media partnership division, a position he held until 2025.
Outside the sports and gambling industries, Marcus has led editorial initiatives and produced branded and thought leadership content for major national and international brands including Disney, Chase Bank, Telstra, Sprint, SteelSeries, Staples, Southwest Airlines, Jack Daniel’s and numerous colleges and universities.
Marcus did his undergraduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, studied sports and event marketing at New York University, and earned his MBA from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. He still calls Charlotte home.
