The Circa Resort Casino received approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission and was granted a license to open its doors to the public on October 28.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board initially approved the casino for licensing on September 9, and the vote on September 24 was unanimous. The casino’s owner Derek Stevens has several other venues in the State, including the D Las Vegas and the Golden Gate. Stevens said: “Circa is about moments and we’re going to create moments.”

The five commissioners in charge of the casino licensing were positive about the opening. They expressed their support for the casino and the boost it will give to the city. Gaming Commissioner Deborah J. Fuetsch said: “Something new and exciting is what we need down in Las Vegas.”

Circa is the first casino in 40 years to be built from the ground up, and it’s located in Downtown Las Vegas. The cost of construction has not been revealed, but experts say it’s no less than $1bn. It’ll reportedly have the world’s largest sportsbook, capable of hosting up to 1,000 spectators. The two-story casino will have 1,350 slot machines and 49 table games. The venue is said to take up 1.25m square feet, with a fifth-floor pool and a hotel with 777 rooms (which is set to open in December).
