The PPF, a national organisation for elite athletes in the UK, hopes its partnership with the online gambling self-exclusion scheme will raise awareness of the tool with its members and consumers in general.
The athletes body, which has 13 player associations as members, said this will be achieved through the sharing of information about Gamstop across its website and social media channels, so athletes and the public are made aware of how to access the solution when required.
The latest partnership builds of PPF’s existing problem gambling work, with Gamstop acting as an addition to its educational hub, aimed to inform professional athletes of the help available for those at risk of problem gambling.
More than 150,000 people are registered with Gamstop allowing them to be excluded from every gambling site for a specified length of time, with all British operators required to integrate the tool as condition of their Gambling Commission licence.
PPF CEO Simon Taylor said: “Professional athletes are at a higher risk of developing gambling problems than their peers outside of sport. We are therefore pleased to help promote Gamstop to make it easier for players that decide they want to self-exclude.”
Gamstop CEO Fiona Palmer, added: “We welcome PPF’s commitment to protecting and educating those closest to sport who might be affected by problems with their gambling.”
