Cyprus Casinos shuts down two casinos amid second COVID-19 wave

Cyprus Casinos has suspended operations at two of its casinos as the island country prepares for a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Limassol

The Cyprus-based subsidiary of Melco Resorts & Entertainment has announced that Cyprus Casinos Limassol and Cyprus Casinos Pafos will be closed until 30 November.

The decision comes as a direct result of the ongoing pandemic, with emergency governmental measures forcing the closure of the two properties.

The Nicosia and Ayia Napa resorts will remain open, albeit with reduced operating hours and with strict safety measures in place.

A statement from the company read: “Valued Customers, with utmost priority the safeguard of your health and a sense of responsibility, Cyprus Casinos Limassol will be closing at 5pm on 12th November while Cyprus Casinos Pafos will be closing at 3pm, as they will be suspending their operations until 30th November, according to the emergency governmental measures.

“We continue to maintain strict hygiene standards to ensure a safe and enjoyable gaming environment for everyone.”

The announcement comes after the Cyprus government placed the southwest area of the island under a strict 19-day lockdown earlier this week, in a bid to reduce infection rate across the country.

A total of 185 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in the country on Thursday, having reported a record 314 cases on 7 November.

ICR Cyprus, the operating entity of Cyprus Casinos, is 75% owned by Hong-Kong based Melco, with local firm Cyprus Phassouri Ltd owning 25%.
