Starting on Monday, the closures are expected to last until Wednesday, but could be extended depending on weather and energy conditions. The announcement comes after multiple utility companies under the control of Southwest Power Pool (SPP) confirmed they are running low on energy supply.

The temporary closures include all nine Cherokee Casino properties, as well as Hard Rock Tulsa and several other businesses. The Cherokee Nation added that all employees scheduled to work during this time will be paid for their shifts.

“CNB has built a reputation for making tough decisions for the right reasons, and that legacy will continue today as we put the needs of our communities ahead of our business goals,” said Cherokee Nation Businesses CEO Chuck Garrett.

“As an industry leader, we hope we can inspire other businesses throughout the region to join us as we plan, prepare and proceed through the next few days of inclement weather.”

The Midwest is currently experiencing power-grid challenges, with SPP providing service to numerous states across the US, including Texas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico and Montana among others.
