Japan’s second-largest pachinko hall operator reported a net profit attributable to owners of the company of JPY2,363m, an 82% decrease from the year ended 31 March 2020.
The group’s profit before income tax was JPY4,342m, a 78% decrease from the prior-year period, with gross pay-ins decreasing 35% to JPY475,163m.
And the company operated 442 halls as of 31 March 2021, six fewer than the 448 halls as of 31 March 2020.
DYNAM stated that various restrictions throughout Japan due to the Covid-19 pandemic led to the temporary closure of 436 halls. The company subsequently established a Crisis Management Committee to help manage the situation, which involves remote work for its employees and the installation of partitions and ventilation systems at its pachinko halls, all of which have resumed operations since June 2020.
“Although the group secured a surplus in the fiscal year ended 31 March 2021, we cannot say that the novel coronavirus impact has ended,” a statement from DYNAM read.
“Under such circumstances, the pachinko business is expected to recover moderately after June 2021, but it will be difficult to recover to the level of the year before the outbreak of novel coronavirus during this term, and the consolidated operating revenue will be higher than the previous year (before the outbreak of novel coronavirus). It is assumed that the level will remain at 80%.
“The group will continue to review the cost structure of the group and promote reforms to a management system that can generate profits even if the consolidated operating revenue is at the level of 80% compared to the previous fiscal year.”
