Crown Resorts faces new closures amid Australian lockdowns

Crown Perth will restrict its operations for a minimum of three days from 27 June 2021, to comply with new Western Australia Government restrictions.

The casino, as well as restaurants and bars on the casino floor, will be closed until further notice.

“All other restaurants and bars, and our hotels, remain open with reduced capacity and hotel facilities,” said the operator.

The venue currently has in place numerous health and safety protocols, including mandatory contact registration to keep track of guests, as well as a requirement for face masks.

Other Crown Resorts venues face similar restrictions: Crown Melbourne has a limit of 300 guests per indoor space, electronic gaming machines must be spaced 1.5 metres apart and table games must operate at 1.5 metres apart, with seated service only.

Australia is dealing with a new spike in Covid-19 cases, with the Sydney, Central Coast and Blue Mountains regions placed under a 14-day lockdown.

This should last until 9 July, though some experts believe this lockdown will be extended in what would be a familiar situation for people around the world.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home, going out for essentials only, such as grocery shopping or medical assistance. All non-essential businesses, including casinos, clubs and pubs, will be temporarily shut down.

Crown Sydney confirmed its properties will follow restrictions, though the property’s hotel services will continue to operate at a reduced capacity during this time. The casino is also looking into discretionary payments to impacted employees.

“Crown will continue to work closely with all state governments and health authorities, and will respond to measures taken in relation to Covid-19,” the operator added.
