Sportradar brings bet monitoring solution to global handball games

Sportradar Integrity Services will enter the arena of global handball after inking a deal with the sport’s top body for its fraud detection solution.

The company has signed a multi-year agreement with the International Handball Federation (IHF) to oversee global handball events. Sportradar will bring its bet monitoring know-how to the game, providing its Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS) for the men’s and women’s World, Junior and Youth World Championships, as well as the IHF Super Globe.

IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa commented: “We recognise the modern-day integrity threats that face global sport, and handball is no exception.

“The IHF makes it a top priority to have robust measures in place to help safeguard the integrity of our major events, not just at men’s and women’s senior level, but also at youth and junior level.

“Sportradar have a proven track record in the field of sports integrity, and the depth of their bet monitoring capabilities will help to support our overall integrity programme in the years ahead.”

According to the company, its UFDS sees betting patterns analysed by a team of integrity experts who flag any suspicious activity which is then reported to Sportradar’s partners. During its 16 years of operation, Integrity Services has detected over 6,500 suspicious matches, with more than 750 in 2021 alone.

This solution has proven popular with other sporting organisations, with Sportradar having recently agreed to monitor games for two big European basketball associations, as well as the International Basketball Federation’s (FIBA) 3x3 global events.

Concerning its latest partnership with the IHF, Integrity Services MD Andreas Krannich added: “We are delighted to partner with IHF to help support their integrity programme with our UFDS bet monitoring solution.

“We have witnessed rising integrity issues in handball over the past five years, and so we credit the vigilance shown by IHF in adding to the integrity provisions surrounding their events.”
