Nevada reports 10th consecutive month of over $1bn gaming revenue

Nevada’s non-restricted gaming licensees have reported total gaming revenue of $1.15bn for December 2021, the state’s tenth consecutive month of over $1bn in gaming revenue.

The figure, released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, is a 68% increase from the prior year period. Gaming win for the fiscal year - 1 July 2021 through 31 December 2021 - increased by 60%.

The $1.15bn figure brings the state’s total revenue for 2021 to $13.4bn. That total surpasses the all-time record of $12.8bn set in 2007. It is also 12% higher than the $12bn set in 2019 prior to the pandemic, and 72% higher than the $7.8bn recorded in 2020, when casinos had been closed for over two months due to Covid.

Clark County accounted for $998.4m of the $1.15bn total, a 79% increase from December 2020. And within the county, revenue for the Las Vegas strip grew 123% year-on-year to $650.7m. Downtown and North Las Vegas grew by 62% and 26% respectively to $73.8m and $23.9m respectively. Laughlin increased by 13% to $29.9m, with Boulder Strip ($69.3m) and Mesquite ($14.2m) increasing by 12% and 26% respectively.

Washoe County meanwhile accounted for $76.5m of the total revenue, growing 21% year-on-year. Reno was its biggest achiever with $55.6m in revenue, a 26% climb from December 2020. Sparks (11%) and North Lake Tahoe (43%) reported totals of $12.1m and $2m respectively.

South Lake Tahoe revenue amounted to $18.5m, a 19% climb from the prior year period. Elko County and Carson Valley Area meanwhile grew by 18% and 20% respectively to $27.6m and $11m respectively.

Table, counter and card games represented $363.9m of the total figure, with slot machines representing the other $786.2m.
