The annual holiday is typically a busy period for land-based operators and as casinos emerge from the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s celebrations are likely more important than ever.
Atlantic City’s nine casino licensees are getting ready to welcome visitors this weekend, offering a range of activities to attract new and returning customers alike.
CANJ President Joe Lupo commented: “This summer, our casinos are feeling a renewed sense of energy and excitement return to Atlantic City.
“There is something for everyone here in Atlantic City, and we can’t wait to welcome new and returning guests to enjoy our world-class entertainment options and experience first-hand all that our beachfront destination has to offer this Fourth of July weekend.”
Each property has something to offer guests. For example, Borgata has introduced a new steakhouse and will host comedy and music events. Caesars, meanwhile, is attempting to entice visitors with exclusive rewards offers.
However, labour disputes endanger the operators’ plans. Unite Here Local 54 is currently seeking wage increases for Atlantic City casino workers.
Two weeks ago, the union voted to authorise strikes in July if their demands are not met. Employee contracts expired on 30 May, but new agreements have yet to be reached.
Yesterday, Local 54 published a report, in which it claimed that Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts could lose more than $1m per day if strikes go ahead. With the deadline only two days away, the pressure is on.
