BetMassachusetts survey suggests Bay Staters mixed on whether they will wager

Massachusetts has legalised sports wagering, but Bay Staters have expressed mixed feelings about whether or not they will gamble.

BetMassachusetts survey suggests Bay Staters mixed on whether they will wager

According to a survey from BetMassachusetts.com, 41% of residents are “likely” or “very likely” to wager on sports. However, 37% of residents said they are “unlikely” or “very unlikely” to do so.

What’s more, 71% of Bay State residents do not currently bet on sports, while 69% said they have never travelled beyond Massachusetts to place a legal wager.

This stands in stark contrast to the 26% of adults surveyed who do currently wager on sports, and the 28% who have travelled to surrounding states to place a bet.

Massachusetts’ neighbours Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island already allow residents to bet legally, and wagering has proven popular.

However, if this survey is to be believed, Bay Staters harbour conflicting opinions about sports betting, at least when it comes to their participation.

Nevertheless, of Massachusetts’ current bettors, 37% anticipate that they will place a wager at least once per week. A further 38% expect to bet once a month to multiple times a year.

When it comes to bettors’ preferred brands, Bay Staters unsurprisingly back their fellow Massachusettsan, Boston-based sportsbook DraftKings.

Roughly 57% of bettors expressed a preference for DraftKings, while FanDuel came second at just over 33%, BetMGM third and Caesars fourth.

These results were generated from an online survey using a sample size of 1,008 Massachusetts adults, that is to say, residents aged 18 and over.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed the state’s sports betting bill into law yesterday.
