The US sportsbook giant is legal across the other US states that offer legalised sports betting; however, the launch in Massachusetts is special because the state is home to DraftKings’ head offices and where it was founded.

DraftKings will also, as it has in many of its other state launches, offer customers in The Bay State generous signup promotions to use its service.

The famously sporty state has seen significant success in recent years, with the New England Patriots, Celtics, Boston Bruins and Red Sox all enjoying new eras of triumph.

Jason Robins, DraftKings’ Co-founder, CEO and Chairman, said of the launch: “It was just over 10 years ago when we launched DraftKings from a spare bedroom in Watertown, and now, we are proud to have the opportunity to deliver a safe and legal sports betting product to millions of diehard sports fans across Massachusetts.

“This launch will mark a major milestone for our company, and we’re proud to become the hometown sportsbook for customers in the Commonwealth.”

To celebrate the launch, DraftKings will host several events around Boston, including sports watching parties and bet celebrations – some of which will be hosted by Robins, alongside other ‘special guests.’

Massachusetts legalised sports betting last summer when the state congress approved a package to see the practice brought to its citizens. Meanwhile, retail sports betting is already legal, having launched on 31 January.
