Lagos has instructed the public to stop betting with multiple gambling brands, as they have been deemed illegal by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, and ‘contravenes’ the provisions of the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Law 2021 (in its amended form).

The move affects multiple verticals and areas of gambling in Nigeria, where gambling is fully regulated both online and in land-based.

The Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LSLGA) has accused the brands of ‘not obtaining the prerequisite licences from LSLGA’ and is, therefore, in breach of its law, Section 33(3). The section states that: ‘a person without a subsisting licence or authorisation from the Authority shall not conduct or operate any gaming activity in the State.’

The list of companies that are now banned from operating in Nigeria is as follows: Zebet, Betika, Gobet, MSport, 22Bet, Afribet, Bestbet360, Bangbet, Betwazobia, Netbet, Nairamillion, Western Lotto, Elliest Lotto, Riderlotto, Peelslotto, Setlotto, Hamabet, Koretbet, Paripesa, Megabet, Livescorebet, Blackbet/Bettybingo, Cloudbet, Sportbet.IO, Hallabet, Oddspedia, N1bet, Ngawin, Millionairepowerplay, Lottomania, Firstbet, Betxperience, Giveraffle, Konfambet, Wakabet, Betfarm, Scrath2win, Chopbarh, Naijabet, Plentymillions, Nairapowerbet, Gamespay and Xtragoalsfantasy.

In further Nigerian news, Kambi’s Abios brand recently signed a deal to provide Oyawin with its esports data, odds and statistic feeds.

In addition, Oyawin will be able to access the esoccer solution from Abios, which supports a range of mobile widgets.

Oskar Bonnevier Fröberg, Abios CEO and Founder, said: “To support the growth of esports in Nigeria, we’re delighted to supply Oyawin with our esports odds, statistics and data visualisations."
