Supplier Sportradar has been granted a temporary licence to act as a sports betting supplier in the state of Maine.

The licence was awarded on 1 November to its subsidiary, Sportradar Solutions, which acts as its US-facing sports betting brand.

Maine is one of the latest states to legalise sports betting, with online sports betting going live on 3 November 2023.

Two sportsbooks launched in the state, Caesars and DraftKings, with the latter signing a deal with the Passamaquoddy Tribe on 31 October.

Similarly, Caesars partnered with the Maliseet, Mi’kmaq and Penobscot tribes.

However, daily fantasy sports (DFS) were banned by gaming regulators on 25 October, which caused some operators to pull out of the market.

This included Underdog, which was previously fined for offering prop-style DFS games to customers on its app.

The new sports betting industry in Maine allows for both online and retail sports betting, but customers will be unable to wager on collegiate teams.

While the four federally recognised Native American tribes were awarded online licences, each tribe can only partner with one external operator each.

Maine brings the total of licences that Sportradar holds up to 53, and the total number of states allowing sports betting up to 37, as well as the District of Columbia.

Sportradar offers a range of services, including sports solutions, digital products, marketing and integrity services.
