Massachusetts Gaming Commission reports $143m in total revenue for November 2023

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has published its November 2023 revenue report. The total taxable gaming revenue for the month was $143m, which equated to $36.1m in taxes for the state.

The total sports wagering revenue contributed $48.9m towards the total and $9.8m in taxes, a 17% decrease from October 2023. This was split between $48.6m from online sports wagering and $370,189 from retail locations, a 17% and 65% monthly decrease respectively.

From the individual properties, Encore Boston Harbor accounted for the most taxable gaming revenue with $288,640, while MGM Springfield brought in $67,835 and Plainridge Park Casino $13,714.

As for online licensees, DraftKings accounted for over half of the taxable gaming revenue with $26.4m. The next highest amount came from FanDuel with $12.1m, then Penn Sports Interactive with $5.7m.

Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) operators also saw positives across the board, with DraftKings once again on top with $9.5m in gross wagering receipts and Prize Pick bringing in $6.4m in second place.

The total Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for casino gaming was $94m, which comprised of $32m from table games and $62m from slots. This represents a 3% decrease when compared to October 2023, but a 1% increase annually.

When examined by individual properties, Encore Boston Harbor once again brought in the highest revenue, with $27.9m from table games and $33.6m from slots, for a combined total of $61.4m. As for MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino, they saw a combined GGR of $21m and $11.6m respectively.

Because Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield are taxed at 25%, they contributed $15.4m and $5.2m in taxes – while Plainridge Park Casino is taxed at 49% which means it paid $5.7m in taxes.
