Operator LeoVegas has taken part in the L-Istrina event.

This is an annual charity event organised by the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCFF) and is traditionally held on Boxing Day each year.

The Foundation works to improve the health and quality of life of people in Malta, with no discrimination on the basis of social class, gender identity, age, ability, health, status or religion.

Some of the work completed by the MCCFF includes providing medical assistance units for patients suffering from cancer, chronic illnesses and those undergoing treatments for rare diseases.

Another one of the initiatives from the MCCFF is wig making, where the Foundation will collect donations of human hair and manufacture them into wigs for people with medical conditions where they may lose their hair.

LeoVegas, an online gambling brand based in Malta, contributed €10,000 ($11,064) towards the L-Istrina charity event.

On its social media, LeoVegas said: “We encourage everyone in the Maltese community to join us in supporting 'L-Istrina' and making a difference in the lives of those in need.

“Your contribution, no matter the size, can collectively create a significant impact on the well-being of the community.”

The 12-hour television event was hosted by celebrities, politicians and volunteers, with Maltese President George Vella answering many of the phone calls himself through the night.

The 2023 L-Istrina event raised a total of €5.27m, an increase from last year and making a positive change in the recent trend of declining donations.

Founded in 1995, the MCCFF raised its record amount of €7m in 2018, with steadily declining amounts since.

However, this year's event marked a 4% increase when looking at the annual figures.

In other Malta news, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) released its Interim Performance Report covering the period between January and June 2023.
