The Governments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Macao SAR issued statements on Sunday, expressing their approval of an announcement made earlier in the day by Chinese mainland authorities. The announcement pertained to measures aimed at facilitating overseas travel for business and skilled personnel.

China's National Immigration Administration (NIA) has unveiled a series of policies aimed at streamlining residents' overseas travel. Effective 6 May 2024, several key adjustments will come into effect, including extending the period of stay for business visit exit endorsements to Hong Kong from seven days to 14 days. Additionally, the application of exit endorsements for talents will expand to include Beijing and Shanghai.

Another is the nationwide acceptance of applications for business visit exit endorsements. Applicants can now submit their requests at any relevant office across the country, regardless of their place of household registration or residence.

The Macao SAR Government welcomed these updates, as the updated policies are anticipated to support the diversified growth of Macao's economy, facilitate personnel exchanges, and foster mutually beneficial cooperation between mainland China and Hong Kong and Macau.

One of the sectors to benefit from the new initiatives will be Macao’s gaming, leisure and tourism industries. In an earlier article, Melco’s CEO suggested that enabling mainland travelers to undertake multiple round trips to Macau would be advantageous for the sustained growth of both regions.

This new initiative means less hassle in travel for mainland visitors and tourists, as well as allowing the option for cheaper lodgings, and will encourage more mainland tourist and tour groups to choose Macao as their foremost vacation and leisure choice.
