Altenar, a sportsbook and iGaming software provider, has recently obtained a B2B licence in Greece – a milestone that the provider hopes will boost its foothold in the European market.

With an existing office in Athens, the company's Greek expansion aims to capitalise on the burgeoning iGaming landscape in the country.

The issuance of the licence by the Hellenic Gaming Commission allows Altenar to offer its suite of services in Greece for the next seven years.

Marina Zacharopoulou, Compliance Manager at Altenar, stated: “The process of obtaining a licence for Altenar was rigorous, albeit familiar due to our experience with similar procedures in other jurisdictions. While we encountered typical challenges along the way, we navigated them smoothly.

“Achieving a Greek licence holds special significance for Altenar, as a considerable portion of our team is Greek, making it feel like a homecoming... Securing our presence in Greece through licensure not only demonstrates our commitment to regulatory compliance but also positions us to capitalise on the country's expanding market.”

The Greek iGaming market has witnessed significant growth since the implementation of new regulatory framework, with tax revenues projected to soar and numerous job opportunities created.

Other companies have also made moves to capitalise on this growing Greek market, with a number of Greek partnerships and expansions being announced in recent months.

In February, for example, Light & Wonder signed a partnership deal with bet365 that saw several Light & Wonder games being made available in the region.

Prior to this, NetBet also expanded into Greece via a Fazi licensing agreement.
