The eight suspects, aged 33-42, are arrested for defrauding casinos in Cotai for a total of MOP$4.54m (US$0.12m).

According to the Judiciary Police, five of the suspects have been identified as gaming table managers, directors and dealers working in casinos, in which the syndicate had recruited them to help ‘tamper’ with casino cards while on duty to enable the defrauding. The other three members are believed to be key members of the group who plan their scams.

The police also believe this is the same group that was responsible for two other separate casino defrauding incidents in April and early May, resulting in losses of MOP$1.7m to MOP$5m.

The police believed several suspects were still at large.

The case has been reported in all Macau news, in which another casino defrauding was also reported earlier in May, with arrests being made and a sizwable amount of fake casino chips valued at HK$5.85m (US$748,260) being seized.

In regards to crime fighting, the Philippines has also upped its effort in combatting cybercrimes, which is a real threat to its emerging E-games and i-Gaming sector.

In this, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has adopted the National Cybersecurity Plan (NCSP) 2023 to 2028 to strengthen their efforts in anti-cybercrime, from detection and response to case build-up and to resolution.
