Macau gross gaming income grows 16.4% in June

Despite year-on-year growth, this does reflect a drop-off from May.

Macau gross gaming income grows 16.4% in June

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has released figures for gaming revenue in Macau for the month of May.

Monthly gross income during the period reached MOP$17.7bn (US$2.21bn), representing year-on-year growth of 16.4%. However, this also reflects a decline of about 12.4% when compared with May’s figures.

Looking at cumulative gross income, this was up by 41.9% when compared with June 2023’s figure, for a total of MOP$113.8bn. However, despite this month being the one to push this year’s gross gaming income over the MOP100bn mark, MOP$17.7bn is still the smallest monthly income reported this year so far. As such, the 41.9% rate of change is the smallest increase so far this year, a figure which has continued to drop since February when the year-on-year growth was 72.7%.

The figures for visitor arrivals during the month of June have not been released yet, but looking at this year’s numbers so far, February saw by far the most in a month at 3,293,564. Since then it has taken a dip, though May’s visitor arrivals did slightly rise by 3.5% when compared with April to 2,692,191 people.

In other news from the region, the Macau Government has approved a five-year concession for Macau company STDM to operate the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal.

Looking at other financial results from around the world, the Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has published gambling results in Denmark for May 2024 with gross gaming revenue (GGR) reaching DKK 571m ($82.46).
