The Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation (JIVDC), owned by the Jamul Indian Village Tribe, celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of Jamul Casino’s new 16-story hotel tower with a topping off ceremony on Friday, 12 July.

The event marked the placement of the final beam of the structure, indicating the completion of a major phase in the project. The hotel, which will feature 200 rooms including 52 suites, is scheduled to open in spring 2025.

During the ceremony, members of the Jamul Casino executive team and the Jamul Indian Village tribe signed the final steel beam. Tribal Elder Kenny Meza performed a traditional blessing of the building and the beam, adorned with the Jamul Indian Village flag, was raised to the top of the tower.

Attendees included Mary Cheeks, President and GM of Jamul Casino; Teresa Cousins and James Cuero from the Jamul Indian Village Tribal Council; Brandon Silveira, Senior Project Manager at CW Driver Companies and Stephen Frazier, Senior Project Architect at JCJ Architecture.

They discussed the hotel’s progress, its importance to the Jamul Indian Village and its future offerings for visitors. A luncheon was held to thank the construction workers involved in the project.

Jamul Casino, which opened in 2016, is a wholly owned enterprise of the Jamul Indian Village. The property includes over 1,500 slot machines, 46 live tables and a poker room. The casino hosts events such as the annual San Diego Poker Classic, which features various poker tournaments.

In April 2023, the JIVDC secured $515m in funding to support the construction of the hotel and other projects. This funding was facilitated by KeyBanc Capital Markets, along with several other banks. The new hotel is expected to enhance the casino's offerings and support the tribe's goal of self-sufficiency, providing economic benefits and job opportunities for the local community.
