Following an earlier report where Lawmaker Leong Sun Iok and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions expressed concerns regarding the mental and physical health of workers in the gaming industries, Leong has urged the Macau Government to “promote the social responsibility of gaming companies in protecting employees" and called on these companies to be "more considerate of their workforce.”

According to Macau news outlets, Leong’s suggestions include “adapting to electronic trends, providing on-the-job training, hiring more staff, and improving salaries and other work benefits to boost morale and safeguard employees’ well-being,” emphasising that the dedication of its gaming employee is one of the keys to Macau’s economic development in its gaming sector.

Leong also requested that authorities strengthen oversight of foreign employee recruitment and renewal processes, especially in light of a recent case of bribery committed by a gaming supervisor

Aside from improving the welfare of gaming workers, Leong has also proposed that the Government negotiate with gaming companies to extend the use of said companies’ member points benefits and coupons to a broader range of Macau community merchants, including restaurants, retail shops, entertainment venues and service providers.

The step will not only stimulate the community economy, but also significantly enhance the social responsibilities and economic contributions of gaming companies.
