Cuan Mhuire, a voluntary provider of Addiction Treatment Services and Residential Rehabilitation in Ireland, has officially opened a new residential treatment service for gambling addiction at their Coolarne facility in Galway.

This expansion, funded by GamblingCare.ie, hopes to mark an important development in addressing the growing need for specialised gambling addiction treatment in Ireland.

The new facility builds upon Cuan Mhuire's existing partnership with GamblingCare which began in 2020 with the funding of specialist residential programs in Athy and Bruree – programs that have already supported hundreds of individuals and their families.

Commenting on the development, Pam Bergin, CEO of GamblingCare, stated: “We are very proud of what we have achieved with Cuan Mhuire in the last four years, introducing the first bespoke gambling residential treatment programmes in Ireland, the first of which was opened during the extremely difficult period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Good to know: GamblingCare Brand Ambassador Oisin McConville will shortly be appearing on an episode of the Huddle

“92 people received treatment in Athy that first year and it has been a hugely successful programme. We are delighted to support its expansion to the Bruree and Galway centres.”

The launch ceremony featured Oisin McConville, Brand Ambassador for GamblingCare and a former patient at Coolarne.

Commenting on his personal connection to the facility, McConville said: “‘This is a particularly poignant occasion for me given I received my treatment here in Coolarne almost twenty years ago.

“I am eternally grateful for the support I received here and can’t express how satisfying it is to support the opening of a specialist programme for gambling addiction.”

This new facility adds to the range of addiction treatment programs offered nationwide by Cuan Mhuire and GamblingCare.
