Key points:
- Westbury has left the overall organisation after five and a half years
- He thanked Digitain Founder Vardges Vardanyan for the opportunity, now planning to “chill and catch up on sleep”
Simon Westbury has left his roles with Digitain and SportGenerate after five and a half years with the businesses.
The exit took place on Friday 11 October. In a post on LinkedIn, Westbury said: “There is a saying in Armenia there is no good without bad and no bad without good.
"As CBO of Digitain and CEO of Generate, the last half of a decade has been more than a job, it has been an all-consuming passion where the good memories have definitely out weighed the bad, coupled with unparalleled success.”
Westbury went on to describe the importance of momentum in his roles and the beliefs he has tried to instill in his colleagues, “empowering them to make decisions whilst removing barriers for them to do their jobs.
"Integrity is very important to me and I believe I can say I can hold my head high.”
After giving his thanks to Digitain Founder Vardges Vardanyan for the opportunities he has had, he closed by writing: “Thanks for the memories, now it is time to chill and catch up on sleep.”
The announcemnt comes not long after the supplier was granted the necessary approvals to begin operations in the UK, with the licence allowing Digitain to expand its European footprint. Other recent European expansion efforts include gaining an A1 Manufacturer’s License from the Hellenic Gaming Commission, allowing it to begin operations in Greece.
Westbury also spoke with Gambling Insider in the May/June edition of the magazine. Among talks of tech innovation and start-ups, he spoke of his experience so far as CEO, stating: “I have found the new role challenging, demanding and more consuming than anything I have ever done, but I have learned so much. From a personal point of view, I have developed a broader skill set and I am now a more rounded professional.
“To me, sales and business development were natural skills that came easily. Being CEO has not come as naturally, as skills that I had not developed in previous roles are needed, and I have been learning on the job. Of course, this is the best way to learn, and I am very thankful to the talented team for their support over the last 15 months.”
Westbury spoke to Gambling Insider after the news and we will publish a follow-up interview soon.
