Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) has intensified its efforts to combat unlicensed online gambling operations, shutting down over 2,500 illegal betting websites since the beginning of the year.
The campaign aims to enforce compliance with the country's gambling laws and protect consumers from unregulated operators.
In September alone, NRA Executive Director Rumen Spetsov issued more than 640 decisions to halt the operations of online betting platforms operating without the required permits.
The agency's protocol gives affected websites a three-day grace period to cease operations voluntarily. Failure to comply results in the NRA referring the case to the court, which may then instruct internet service providers (ISPs) to block access to non-compliant websites.
To maintain transparency and keep the public informed, the NRA publishes all decisions and court rulings in the Online Gambling section of its website.
Additionally, the agency maintains an up-to-date register of gambling websites operated by entities lacking valid gambling operations permits.
Furthermore, the NRA encourages online users to report unlicensed betting websites, with individuals able to submit reports via email.
