Key points:

- Operations will cease fully on 21 January

- The remaining fixtures will take place at the Romford, Hove & Monmore tracks

- Commitments have been made to support impacted colleagues and trainers

After Entain announced the closure of the Crayford greyhound track towards the end of November, the date of the last races has now been confirmed.

This coming Sunday will be the last racing day at Crayford and the track will formally cease operations as of Tuesday 21 January 2025, with the current fixture schedule being fulfilled at the Romford, Hove & Monmore tracks.

While an official statement explains measures were taken to try and find a way of avoiding a permanent closure of the track, a viable option was ultimately not found in the end.

Colleagues have gone through a two-stage consultation process and have been supported in being offered relocation to other locations within the business or generally supporting them going forward.

Crayford has also committed to supporting trainers who have been impacted by the closure of the track, also stating it will ensure affected greyhounds are cared for.

Good to know: In December, New Zealand's Racing Minister Winston Peters confirmed that greyhound racing was to be banned in the country in 2026

An Entain spokesperson said: "It is with great sadness that we are announcing today the confirmation of the closure of Crayford greyhound track with the last day of racing to be Sunday 19th January.

“Since announcing our intention to close the venue, several parties have expressed interest in exploring alternatives.

“We held discussions with these parties and carefully reviewed and evaluated their proposals. Regrettably, none of the options put forward were viable."

In other company news, Entain has this week published a reiteration of its FY24 EBITDA guidance, ahead of its full-year results.
