PAGCOR organises gender and development sessions to improve employee wellbeing

Key points:

– PAGCOR attended a seminar aimed at improving Gender and Development (GAD) policies

– These include multi-faith prayer rooms and facilities for new mothers

– This was attended by PAGCOR’s newly established GAD Technical Working Group

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) has held a Gender and Development (GAD) seminar to learn about the latest practices businesses can incorporate to improve the quality of life for employees.

This included a tour of various Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) facilities and dedicated rooms, all of which highlighted different potential issues that might affect employees who are uncomfortable or unable to speak up about them.

These included multi-faith prayer rooms, areas dedicated to meditation and relaxation, private and secure facilities for new mothers, a Department of Education-accredited preschool and mental health facilities such as employee counselling.

PAGCOR has a long history of engaging with GAD events, including attending seminars on how to reduce sexual harassment against women in the casino industry.

According to the PAGCOR website, “in an attempt to create gender equality, (denoting women having same opportunities as men, including the ability to participate in the public sphere) GAD policies aim to redefine traditional gender role expectations.”

Good to know: The Philippine Plan for Gender and Development 1995-2025 was signed by former President Fidel Ramos as a 30-year perspective framework to pursue full equality and development for both women and men

During the seminar, Wick Veloso the GSIS President and General Manager, discussed various insights with PAGCOR’s newly established GAD Technical Working Group on Agenda and Policy Formation.

This group is led by Julia Morales, PAGCOR’s GAD Executive Committee Chairperson.

In its latest reports, PAGCOR estimates that the Philippine gambling market is set to surpass PHP350bn (US$6.04bn) in GGR.
