Key points:
- ACMA has blocked eight more illegal online gambling websites for violating the Interactive Gambling Act 2001
- Around 220 illegal operators have exited the Australian market since enhanced enforcement began in 2017
- The authority continues to warn consumers about risks associated with unlicensed gambling services
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced its latest round of enforcement actions, requesting Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block eight additional illegal online gambling and affiliate-marketing websites.
The blocked sites, including JokaRoom, AUDPokies888, Aura Play, Instant Casino, Leon, Rich Papa, UUSpin and Wild Pokies, were found to be operating in violation of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
This latest action continues ACMA's sustained efforts to protect Australian consumers from unauthorised gambling operators. Since implementing its first blocking request in November 2019, the authority has successfully blocked 1,154 illegal gambling and affiliate websites.
Additionally, approximately 220 illegal services have withdrawn from the Australian market since the enforcement of new illegal online gambling rules began in 2017.
Good to know: ACMA maintains a register of licensed operators for consumers to verify legitimate wagering services in Australia
The authority emphasises that seemingly legitimate services may lack crucial customer protections, putting users' funds at risk.
This enforcement action follows recent formal warnings issued to offshore operators Dama N.V. and Luster N.V. in January 2025 for providing unauthorised gambling services to Australian customers through multiple platforms.
In additional recent related news, Western Australia announced that it would be strengthening its gambling laws last week by increasing its financial penalities and enforcement powers.
