Key points:
- The Malta Gaming Authority has cancelled Goldwin's gaming authorisation
- Goldwin must notify players, settle outstanding fees and remove references to the MGA
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced the cancellation of Goldwin’s gaming authorisation, effective 13 March 2025.
The decision revokes the licence bearing reference number MGA/B2C/533/2018 in accordance with multiple regulations under the Gaming Compliance and Enforcement Regulations.
Following this regulatory action, Goldwin must notify all players of the cancellation via email and prominently display the information on their website for 30 days.
The company is also required to direct players seeking to withdraw funds to the MGA's ticketing system for assistance.
Additionally, Goldwin must settle all outstanding fees owed to the Authority within five working days of the effective date and immediately remove any references to the MGA and the authorisation from their materials, as mandated by Article 51 of the Gaming Act.
Good to know: The decision is subject to appeal under Article 43(1) of the Act
This enforcement action comes shortly after the MGA updated its regulatory oversight approach for 2025 last month.
The authority's new framework emphasises three key areas: risk-based resource allocation, enhanced collaboration and proactive risk management.
The updated regulatory strategy aims to implement a more evidence-driven and outcomes-focused model to address risk areas within the market.
