The European Lotteries (EL) Executive Committee has announced the appointment of Piet Van Baeveghem as the new EL Secretary General, effective 1 July 2025.
Van Baeveghem brings significant industry experience to the role, having been deeply involved with EL for many years while working at The National Lottery in Belgium.
His most notable contribution has been serving as Executive Chair of the EL Legal & Regulatory Working Group, though he has participated in multiple other capacities throughout his association with the organisation.
With over 25 years of expertise in policy-making and stakeholder engagement, Van Baeveghem is regarded as an expert in strategy, governance and regulatory affairs.
His educational background includes a Master's degree in Law from Ghent University, providing him with a legal foundation for navigating the regulatory landscape of the European lottery sector.
The EL Executive Committee expressed confidence that Van Baeveghem's experience and understanding of the industry make him well-prepared to lead the association forward.
This appointment comes amid other leadership changes in the industry, including Ed Domingo's recent appointment as CEO of Crown Melbourne.
Domingo, who brings over 20 years of hospitality and casino industry experience, will be leaving his position as President and COO of MGM Resorts International's Empire City Casino in New York to assume his new role in late April.
