Spelinspektionen fines Glitnor SEK 28m and Roar Vegas SEK 8m

Following an audit, the Swedish Gambling Authority found failures in how both companies responded to customers exhibiting potentially risky gambling behaviours.

Key points:

- Glitnor Services Limited has been issued an administrative fine of SEK 28m

- Roar Vegas has been handed an administrative fine of SEK 8m

- These were due to how they handled customers experiencing potential gambling harm

Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, has handed administrative fines to two companies for responsible gambling failures.

Glitnor Services

Glitnor Services has been given a warning and a fine of SEK 28m ($2.79m) after it breached the duty of care section of the Gambling Act.

Out of the twelve customers audited, ten of them were not helped by the company when they started to experience excessive gambling.

Three of these were aged 18-24 years old, which is considered a particularly vulnerable group.

Customer five placed bets every hour throughout the day 23 days in a row; customer four placed 3,200 bets in five and a half hours; and customer six lost 24% of their annual income in three days.

Although Glitnor had reached out to the customers, this had no real affect on their playing patterns and so the Authority regards these attempts as unsuccessful and notes that the company should’ve escalated to more drastic measures.

Following this, Glitnor has undergone extensive changes to remedy customer care, including new processes for follow-up measures.

Glitnor Services operates games on the website luckycasino.com.

Roar Vegas

Roar Vegas has been handed an administrative fine of SEK 8m after it was also found to have breached its duty of care.

In a similar audit, Roar Vegas was found to have not sufficiently helped three of the twelve customers the Spelinspektionen checked.

Customer six was regularly logged in for between six and twelve hours per day; customer nine was logged in for 16 hours at one point; while these and customer eight followed a gambling pattern which saw most of the money lost immediately after depositing it.

Roar Vegas did enforce deposit limits on these customers, but the Spelinspektionen argues that effective measures should’ve been taken quicker.

Roar Vegas is licensed for commercial online gaming and betting and conducts games on the website leovegas.com.

Good to know: Some of the customers suffering potential gambling harm across both operators were accessing their accounts at night, playing casino games or aged between 18 and 24, all of which are indicators of risky gambling behaviour

The neighbouring gambling authority, the KSA, recently published a list of risky gambling behaviour indicators, which have since been adopted by others in the industry.
