Isle of Man Government responds to National Risk Appetite: ‘We are open for reputable business’

Key points:

– Jane Poole-Wilson, Isle of Man Minster for Justice and Home Affairs, has commented on the recent National Risk Appetite Statement

– It’s believed that the statement will provide clear guidelines for businesses to manage risks in business relationships in iGaming

– The island is dealing with increasingly complex issues related to organised crime from Asia

The Isle of Man Government has shown support for the National Risk Appetite Statement (NRAS) published yesterday.

The publication, which focuses on the unique crime and financial risks that iGaming poses, explains the different sectorial, structural and jurisdictional hazards on the island.

Jane Poole-Wilson, Isle of Man Minster for Justice and Home Affairs, said: “Serious and organised transnational crime is a global threat, and the Isle of Man is committed to playing its part in disrupting this activity.

“The National Risk Appetite Statement is a crucial step in ensuring that our economy remains strong and diverse, while protecting our Island, its people, and its businesses from exploitation.

“The Isle of Man is open for good quality, reputable business. To support those aims, this Statement will provide to industry and wider stakeholders the clarity they need.”

Good to know: A second, more comprehensive National Risk Appetite Statement, is expected to be published by the island within a few months

The Isle of Man has made several changes to how the island operates within the last few years in regards to iGaming hubs and businesses.

This was also reflected in a recent acknowledgement by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in a report published in April.

The UNDOC report explained several key examples of how the Isle of Man had been linked to the “increasingly complex criminal landscape in East and Southeast Asia”, as worded by the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission.

These included Manx businesses linked to Zhao Wei, who chaired the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone before his expansion into the island.
