ROFUS reaches 60,000 registrants as more Danes opt to self-exclude from gambling

The self-exclusion program has experienced consistent growth since its inception, expanding from fewer than 1,500 users in its first year to the current figure of over 60,000.

ROFUS reaches 60,000 registrants as more Danes opt to self-exclude from gambling

Key points:

– Over 60,000 Danes are now registered with ROFUS, Denmark’s self-exclusion program

– Young men under 40 make up the majority of self-excluders, especially in the under-20 group

The Danish Gambling Authority has confirmed that over 60,000 individuals have now registered with ROFUS, the country’s national self-exclusion register for gambling.

The milestone was reached on 1 May 2025 and marks a notable increase in awareness and use of the service, particularly among young men.

ROFUS (Register of Self-Excluded Players), established in 2012, allows users to voluntarily block themselves from gambling with licensed operators across Denmark. This includes online gambling, betting with licensed retailers and visiting land-based casinos.

Good to know: ROFUS offers flexible exclusion options, allowing users to select temporary bans ranging from 24 hours to six months, or permanent exclusions that can only be lifted after a minimum one-year period

Anders Dorph, Director of the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden), said the continued growth of ROFUS registrations highlights the tool’s relevance, stating: “It is gratifying that those who need to exclude themselves from gambling are using ROFUS.

“This shows that awareness of the tool is growing and that it fulfils an important function in the effort against gambling addiction.”

Recent data shows that younger men remain disproportionately represented. As of May 2025, 58% of registered male users were under 40, with men making up 96% of registrants under the age of 20.

In response, the Danish Gambling Authority has focused efforts on youth education and stigma reduction, including its latest campaign, ‘Take it easy with ROFUS.’

This self-exclusion milestone comes as Denmark’s gambling market continues to show strong growth, with gross gaming revenue increasing 11.6% year-on-year to DKK 665m ($103.06m) in April 2025.
