Australian regulator targets unlicensed operators CoinPoker and Casiny
ACMA issued formal warnings to two offshore operators for providing gambling services illegally in Australia.
Key points:
– Both operators were found to be breaching the Interactive Gambling Act 2001
– CoinPoker enabled Australian players to access gambling services via cryptocurrency
– Casiny accepted bets from Australian customers without a licence
After blocking multiple illegal gambling websites, The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued formal warnings to Precise IG Solutions B.V., operator of CoinPoker and to Dama N.V., operator of Casiny, for offering illegal gambling services in Australia without the required licence.
According to ACMA, CoinPoker allowed users to place bets using cryptocurrency. This constitutes a breach of the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, which prohibits unlicensed gambling services from being offered to Australian residents, regardless of the currency used.
Meanwhile, Casiny was found to be accepting bets from players in Australia without holding a licence, a violation of the same legislation.
ACMA’s review concluded that the operator facilitated prohibited interactive gambling services targeting Australian users.
Both operators have been directed to ensure their services are no longer accessible to Australians. While formal warnings have been issued, ACMA has made it clear that further enforcement action, including ISP blocking and cooperation with international regulators, remains on the table if the non-compliance continues.
Good to know: ACMA has already issued a formal warning to Dama NV earlier this year
This is part of a broader initiative by ACMA to protect Australian consumers from unlicensed online gambling platforms. The regulator has taken action against influencers promoting illegal gambling.
ACMA reiterated that operators targeting the Australian market must comply with the country’s licensing requirements, regardless of where they are based or the technology used.
