Thailand: 200 arrested in major Bangkok gambling den raid
Illegal venue linked to multi-million baht monthly cash flow.
Key points:
– Over 200 gamblers detained in Don Muang area operation
– Gambling venue generated more than THB500m (US$13.8m) per month
– Police seized 17 bank passbooks with transaction records
Authorities in Bangkok have arrested more than 200 people following a major raid on an illegal gambling den in the Don Muang district, Bangkok Post reported. The venue, which had been operating almost around the clock, was said to be part of a larger network that had previously been targeted by police.
The den ran daily from 10am until 6am the following day, offering only a four-hour closure. Officers had monitored the site for roughly a month in response to complaints from residents, who raised concerns about rising insecurity, gambling addiction and the involvement of local youths.
During the raid, authorities seized 17 bank passbooks which revealed transactions totalling more than THB500m monthly.
The scale and efficiency of the operation suggested an extensive underground network, one that has continued to function despite previous enforcement efforts.
Good to know: The facility featured five dedicated gambling rooms, including VIP sections and a central hall, each reportedly generating THB3m–THB4m within hours
Officials noted that the den had already been subjected to raids multiple times in the past but had resumed business through loopholes and limited penalties.
The recent operation aimed not only to dismantle the local venue but also to gather further intelligence on the broader network.
The suspects are now being processed for legal action, while the police continue to investigate financial trails and links to organisers. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal gambling, which they say fuels wider criminal activity and threatens public welfare.
