Sports betting sets sail with MSC Cruises and Playtech deal

Key points:

– MSC Cruises will now offer guests sports betting on board its vessels

– The sports betting terminals and mobile till products will be powered by Playtech

– Deal represents Playtech’s first venture into the cruise leisure sector

Playtech’s retail sports product is getting rolled out across MSC Cruise vessels.

The private cruise line already offers its guests gaming entertainment with a range of slots and table games, but after the strategic partnership with Playtech launched earlier this year, that entertainment line-up will be expanding.

Playtech’s self-service terminals and new mobile tills will allow passengers on the ships to make bets on a wide range of sports – the technology will all be integrated with the guests’ onboard accounts.

The rollout is already live on seven vessels but further deployments over the next few months will bring the sports betting capacity to even more of the 23-strong MSC fleet.

Yori Arami, VP of Sports at Playtech, said: “We are excited to partner with MSC Cruises and bring our retail sports betting solutions to their impressive fleet. This partnership represents a significant milestone for Playtech as we continue to expand our offerings and provide unique, engaging experiences for players around the world on land and sea.”

Good to know: MSC World Europa is a cruise ship unveiled in 2022 and was the first MSC vessel to run on liquified natural gas – it recently lost power off the Italian west coast and had to be rescued by tugboats

This deal between Playtech and MSC marks the gambling technology company’s first entry into the cruise leisure sector.

MSC, on the other hand, has some pre-existing partnerships with the gambling industry, including a rewards deal with Rivers Casino

Maro Friso is the Head of Casino at MSC Cruises and commented: “We are very proud to be able to deliver the excitement and engagement of sports gaming to our guests through our partnership with Playtech. Our fleet of modern cruise ships will provide our customers a wide array of immersive digital content as a complement to our state-of-the-art cruise casinos.”
