112 illegal gambling sites blocked in Argentinian province
In Misiones, Judge Martin López ordered the blocking of the sites, which were illegally targeting players in the province.
Key points:
– 112 sites were found to be operating in Misiones illegally
– Legal process involved new cross-division methods for detecting and reporting illegal websites
– The action was requested by the Misiones Lottery
In Misiones, a province in Northern Argentina, 112 gambling sites operating illegally have been taken down according to local reports and the The Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC).
It was the state-owned lottery in Misiones that requested action be taken against the unregulated websites, which it was feared could be easily accessed by minors.
The state-owned Misiones lottery, or IPLyC, includes a specific tool on its website for reporting illicit sites.
Judge Martin López of the Civil and Commercial Court of First Instance Number 3 of Posadas has now ordered the immediate blocking of the offending sites by all internet service providers in the region, after the IPLyC first filed the request on 5 September.
The Judge has noted that the conclusion of this lawsuit follows the implementation of a new methodology for identifying rogue operators involving both the Cybecrime Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General.

On this new collaborative process he was quoted as saying: “We have been working on legal actions for several years.”
President Héctor Alejandro Rojas Decut of the IPLyC has said: “This is a great achievement, after being able to obtain this measure that will allow blocking and in some way shows us a path to follow where the possibility of blocking successive illegal gaming sites will be much more effective.”
He was keen to remind the public that regulated websites in the Argentinian Province would include ‘.bet’ or ‘.ar’ in their URLs.
